Hoyer finished 1-of-4 passing for 3 yards. Analysis: Hoyer failed to make new 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan feel good about giving the longtime NFL journeyman the starting job early in training camp. Matt Barkley was next in line and performed well as he led San Francisco to two field goals in roughly two quarters while finishing 10 of 17 for 168 yards without any major mistakes. "You worry about what you can control," Hoyer said. "Go back and watch the film and make the corrections."

Analysis: Hoyer resisted what was classified by NFL Network as a "very strong offer" from the Jets, and he also reportedly had talks with the Bills. Hoyer and Shanahan worked together in 2014 with the Browns. Shanahan was the offensive coordinator as Hoyer made 13 starts, going 7-6. Hoyer agreed to a deal for around $6 million per season with the understanding that he will get a chance to start, according to ESPN.
