The Miami lefty, who walked two and hit a batter, still wound up with the win in the Marlins' 5-0 victory. Analysis: Marlins manager Don Mattingly cited Chen's elbow issues from last season as the reason for his decision, plus the fact that the hurler hadn't thrown more than 86 pitches in either of his first two starts. Chen (2-0, 3.94 ERA) has opened his second season in Miami with two very good starts and one poor one, and will be working on six days rest when he next takes the mound in Philadelphia next Tuesday.

Chen allowed two more homers in Miami's 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. The solo shots for Yadier Molina and Dexter Fowler made it six homers allowed by the left-hander during spring training. Analysis: A fly-ball pitcher who surrendered 28 homers in 31 starts during his final year with Baltimore, Chen signed with Miami as a free agent prior to the 2016 season. The hope was the more spacious Marlins Ballpark would turn some of those drives into long outs.
